Etiye Dimma Poulsen
°1968, Ethiopia.
The more I try to simplify my sculptures, the more I realize how much I draw from a common heritage. In my work I seems to respond to certain unconscious rules. Whether in my female statues, evoking images of Venus from Africa, Europe or Asia, or in more recent works, like my “moon watchers”, inevitably I resonate with the past.
Almost genetically the artist continues to transmit basic visual images from our common store. I’ve always felt only part creator of my work and that nature, instinct, memory and culture do the rest.
" We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time".
T.S. Eliot
