Vincent’s career has included many creative disciplines including sculpture, art direction and design. This diverse background was the catalyst for his unique collages that cleverly ride the cusp between Fine Art and Graphics.
His collages reflect the eclectic vibrancy of London life, the affluent to the less so. From city bankers to street walkers, West End girls to East End boys. Luxury goods in Knightsbridge, north of the river, to fighting dogs and fish and chips in Bermondsey, south of the river. The collages have become a demographic reflection of specific London locations.
About the artist
Vincent Poole °1960
Titles of Vincent’s work further mirror everyday London life. ‘Does My Bum Look Big In This’ is a phrase many of us have heard from our partners just before we’re about to go out for the evening. The collage of a city businessman walking quickly through a London street holding a briefcase in one hand while looking at his watch in the other, titled ‘Avoiding The Taxman’ hints at a controversial story behind the collage. And the collage of a youth with a powerful dog ‘Thinking Of England’ looks back to stronger economic and industrial times. Asset strippers are accountants sent in to strip the assets of a failed company, but in Vincent’s case the collage titled ‘Asset Stripper’ refers to a woman with a very successful divorce
settlement.
Vincent’s work has been successfully shown and collected throughout the world including Paris, Cannes, Amsterdam, Monaco, Geneva, New York, Santa Fe, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Moscow, Seoul, Dubai and of course London where Vincent lives and works.
New Work
With Vincent’s work there is always the eye-catching Big Picture and at the same time the fascination of exploring the Fine Detail. Since January 2013 there is an even higher level of detail. Vincent now uses up to 35% more images in each collage and it can take between 120-150 hours to complete one. As a visiting gallery owner said, “the level of detail in the new work is really quite dramatic”.
For those of you who would like the technical details as well, all collages since the beginning of the year use individual Lambda C-Type prints on Duraclear film. C-Type prints are regarded as the photographic industry’s highest quality print process. Also all collages made since January are now supplied in handmade Graphite-black hardwood frames.
