ANNEMARIE TERLAGE Dutch

"I love the dazzling glow of an ideal world."
Born in 1967 in the Netherlands, Annemarie Terlage has distinguished herself as a painter with a classical sensibility, melding traditional themes with innovative techniques. A graduate of the esteemed Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 1991, Terlage has remained dedicated to her craft within her intimate studio, situated in the heart of the city.

Terlage's oeuvre encompasses landscapes and architectural settings, created through a unique experimental approach that combines epoxy and acrylic paint on canvas. Drawing inspiration from personal memories, old picture postcards, and childhood albums, her work evokes a sense of nostalgia and intimacy. Terlage's compositions feature dreamy, delicate colors balanced by resolute lines, resulting in an impressive depth of space. This harmonious interplay stems from her keen painterly eye and a meticulous study of the material qualities of epoxy and acrylic paint. Occasionally, Terlage infuses her work with an almost hallucinatory glow-in-the-dark palette, inspired by memories of nighttime scenes in the United States. This unconventional touch adds a mesmerizing quality to her otherwise classical compositions.

Dreams, memories, and visions of an ideal or fictive world inspired her new recent series of paintings; reminiscent images of modern villa’s surrounded by lush gardens and baroque interiors seem to invite the onlooker to wander in her wanderlust.
