HET BEPROEVING VAN DE KUNSTENAAR
De eerste stap is verkennen. Verkennen is essentieel om te kunnen creëren. Een leeg vel papier verkennen: fantaseren in alle richtingen, vragen stellen, zich verwonderen. Op zoek gaan naar nieuwe effecten. En de angsten, de fouten, de beperkingen aanvaarden. Lijden… ja, lijden is ook nodig: om toe te geven dat de nieuwe methodes niet werken zoals je hoopte. Zelfs wanhopen. Maar toch volhouden. En opnieuw beginnen, deelnemen, een beetje de waarheid begrijpen en geloven dat er een nieuw pad is. Een diepmenselijk pad, wonderbaarlijk dichtbij. En dat nemen. En dan dat sublieme moment beleven waarop vreugde en passie ontluiken, vermenselijken op papier. Die opwinding. Dat is de beproeving van de kunstenaar.

L’ÉPREUVE DE L’ARTISTE
L’exploration est la première étape. Indispensable pour créer. L’exploration sur une feuille blanche : imaginer dans toutes les directions, demander, se demander. Chercher de nouveaux effets. Et accepter les peurs, les erreurs, les limites. Souffrir… oui, la souffrance est elle aussi nécessaire : avouer que les nouvelles méthodes ne sont pas fructueuses. Jusqu’à désespérer même. Mais persister. Recommencer, prendre part, comprendre un peu de la vérité et croire qu’il existe un nouveau chemin. Un chemin profondément humain, merveilleusement proche. Et l’emprunter. Et vivre ce moment sublime où la joie et la passion surgissent, où elles deviennent humaines sur le papier. L’exaltation. L’épreuve de l’artiste.

THE ARTIST’S TRIAL

Exploration is the first step. Essential in order to create. Exploration on a blank piece of paper: imagining in all directions, asking, wondering. Looking for new effects. And accept the fears, the mistakes, the limitations. Suffering … yes, suffering is also necessary: to confess that the new methods don’t come out well. Even to despair. But to persist. To start again, take part, understand a bit of truth and believe there is a new path. A profoundly human path, wonderfully close. And to take it. And experience that sublime moment in which joy and passion become present, become human on paper. The exhilaration. The artist’s trial.
