The Recluse
The Recluse | |
We are honoured to announce that 'The Recluse', a bronze sculptural work by Maku Azu, had entered the permanent collection of the Saudi Royal Family. 'The Recluse' is an embodiment of all the common emotions many felt when the world was forced into "exile" - the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. The sculpture was made during that period and for Maku, "it's a deeply personal piece.". Maku's schulpture joins the vast art collection of the Saudi Royal family including Leonardo da Vinci's 'Salvator Mundi' painting valued at almost half a billion dollars. The Recluse reflects and celebrates the beauty found in imperfections, portraying the essence of womanhood. In Maku Azu's work, the exploration of fluidity as a way of existence is profound, while the depiction of red barnacles on the body serves as a compelling reference to oceanic relics. |
